Industrial Lights

Does industrial lighting refer primarily to factories and warehouses?

Our lighting experts tend to categorize it this way.  Typically this refers to facilities with either high square footage or ceiling spaces that is higher than that of the typical office space.  Illumination is needed for the building interior, the building itself, and the area around the building.  Due to the size of some of these facilities, many of the industrial light fixtures used here must be the brightest of their kind in order to be effective.

Industrial Lighting Fixtures For Many Commercial Applications

In applications where the brightest possible light is needed, we do recommend metal halide.  It is still the brightest type of lamp in the industry, although fluorescent and LED sources are starting to come close.  Metal halides are relatively inexpensive too, so any industrial lighting system that requires a large number of physical fixtures is more affordable to procure in the form of metal halide.  Many of your clients will be the first to tell you that a lamp life of 10-15 thousand hours is perfectly acceptable to them, so MH offers a return on investment through replacement costs savings.  Better engineering also gives this newer generation of MH higher lumens per watt output, making them cheaper to operate.

Yes.  Some of the newer parking lots have been impeccably lit by new LED fixtures.  The costs of these lights are much higher than metal halide, but the operating costs are extremely low in comparison.  So far, we have seen this work best in smaller lots where the client does not have to pay an exorbitant amount in equipment costs because the actual numbers of poles and fixtures is relatively small.

Fluorescent gooseneck lights and wall pack lights are also used for lighting buildings themselves in industrial lighting applications.  Facilities that reside on large tracts of land also need security perimeter lighting, which is being done with fluorescent flood lighting in places and a variety of LED landscape lights around walkways, steps, and water features.
