We had a client in Alameda, CA by the name of Tim Fitz.  He needed a basketball court lighting system for his home sport court.  He had hired a contractor to handle the installation of the equipment, and he had gone online to locate a vendor of athletic and sport lighting fixtures made in the USA.

It is important for people like Mr. Fitz to invest their time and money in buying American made equipment.  US companies are held to strict standards of quality assurance.  Both government regulations, plus their own internal quality controls, motivate competitive American manufacturers to do their best work and to back it up with sound, trustworthy warranties.

When you buy basketball lighting fixtures from overseas sources, you have no guarantee of quality assurance, nor can you count on any warranty being honored beyond the American border.

What Mr. Fitz did was a strategic and very practical investment of time and money in the right kind of equipment, the right kind of lighting design, and the right type of specialist skilled at installing the equipment.

The main value of the photometric design in this particular project was to determine how many light poles would be needed for the project.  Since the client had already arranged for his contractor to pour the concrete bases for the poles themselves, our task was to determine which poles would work best, and how tall they needed to be

When recommending the basketball lighting fixtures that would reside on the poles, we had to consider very strict dark sky laws in Alameda.  The right amount of light would have to shine upon the court, but it would also have to stay within the boundaries of the court and be contained to its surface and immediate game play area.

Such a configuration may sound simple at face value to create until you actually try to do it without 3D modeling software.  Even with advanced mathematical skills, it is impossible to see something clearly without a visual model resulting from the mathematics.

RLLD routinely utilizes advanced software of this nature to customize basketball lighting and other types of sport lighting systems for residential and commercial clients.  No two courts are exactly alike—especially in the home sport court industry.

The reason for this is simple.  Such private courts are usually custom-built and require custom lighting designs to properly illuminate.

After experimenting with several different pole configurations and types of basketball lighting fixtures, we eventually rendered a design that proved itself to be the very best option for Mr. Fitz.  It consisted of a simple 4 pole layout supporting full cutoff CXL sport lighting fixtures.

Full cutoff sport lights prevent light from escaping upward and outward and ensure compliance with increasingly strict light pollution regulations now sweeping across the nation.  They are also a courtesy to one’s neighbors regardless of regulations because they will not disturb the sleep of other homeowners by shining bright lights into their windows.

To complete the requirements of this project, we also shipped anchor bolts with each pole designed to set the pole correctly in the concrete bases that the contractor poured to support them.

RLLD Commercial Lighting carries a wide variety of industrial lights, gooseneck lights & commercial lighting fixtures.
